Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of heroes who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look mismatched, but the actions of the third episode show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the team enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the northern region in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Questers and Planners parties.

Audiences can expect learning which adventurers will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
